what is an avalanche
|
An Avalanche is a big group of snow that slides down a mountainside. It can also be called a "snow slide". As the Avalanche gets closer and closer to the bottom of the mountain, it becomes faster and gains more power, this make even the smallest Avalanches to be a major disaster
there are two types of avalanches, Surface Avalanche that happens when a layer of snow with different proprieties slides over another layer of snow. for an example, when a layer of dry snow slides over a closely compacted layer of wet snow. the other type of avalanche is the full-depth avalanche which is when an entire snow cover, slides over the ground. an avalanche can happen in many different kinds of snow depending on the temperature and weather. It could happen when the snow is loosely packed light snow, which can still be very dangerous. It could also happen with thick areas of tightly packed snow. |
